Yet another post about the New EU Packaging Waste Yet another post about the New EU Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) 🥲 This probably isn’t the first post you’ve read about the new EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). From 12 August onwards, sales to EU countries will involve additional paperwork, extra complications and additional costs for the seller. Don’t get us wrong: we’re fully in favour of legislation that helps improve waste management and reduce its environmental impact. Otherwise, Xolla wouldn’t even exist ;) What we find paradoxical is that, on the one hand, we still see supermarket packaging containing 20 individually wrapped portions, each with a muffin inside — rather than the 20 muffins being sold loose, as they used to be — while, on the other hand, in many EU member states, virtually the same regulations apply to a micro-business as to a multinational corporation. The result is that many small businesses and entrepreneurs are facing an economic and bureaucratic burden that can become overwhelming. As a precaution, we’ve decided to pause sales to EU countries. We hope this will only be temporary, until we have a clearer picture of where things are heading. Luckily, there are several shops that stock our products, and we always encourage you to buy our yarn directly from them. Because when our stockists are happy, we’re happy too :) You can find a full list on our website. That said, if there’s something you’ve had your eye on that might not be in stock at your local yarn shop, we’re giving you the opportunity to order it directly from us over the next few hours. 11 August will be the last day to place orders from EU countries until further notice. And if you think our yarns could be a good fit for your favourite yarn shop, you can always get in touch with us or suggest our yarns to them. Luckily, these measures don’t affect business-to-business sales, so shops can continue working with us as usual.
Today I found myself looking back through this acc Today I found myself looking back through this account and realized I’d never shared this illustration. It was drawn by my great-grandfather, Orland, whom I never had the chance to meet. For many years, it was simply one of the many paintings hanging in my family’s homes, and I never paid it much attention until I started spinning. Then I saw it with new eyes: a woman spinning, dressed in the traditional clothing of our region and using a traditional spindle. Suddenly, that painting became a true treasure. I asked my grandmother over and over again if she would give it to me, but she always said no… Until my daughter was born. Then she decided it would be her welcome gift, and it remains one of the most beautiful and meaningful gifts I’ve ever received. I don’t know whether there’s a story behind this painting. Perhaps it portrays one of my ancestors spinning, perhaps it was a neighbor, or perhaps my great-grandfather was inspired by a photo. I wanted to honor it by using it as the inspiration for the illustration that now accompanies some of our yarn bases. / Hoy me dio por echar la vista atrás en esta cuenta y me di cuenta de que nunca había compartido esta ilustración. La dibujó mi bisabuelo Orland, a quien no llegué a conocer. Durante muchos años fue simplemente uno de los muchos cuadros repartidos por las casas de mi familia, y no reparé demasiado en él hasta que empecé a hilar. Entonces lo vi con otros ojos: una mujer hilando, con el traje tradicional y el huso de nuestra tierra. De repente, aquel cuadro se convirtió en un auténtico tesoro. Le pedí a mi abuela una y otra vez que me lo regalara, pero no hubo manera… Hasta que nació mi hija. Entonces decidió que ese sería su regalo de bienvenida, y sigue siendo uno de los regalos más bonitos y especiales que he recibido. No sé si este cuadro esconde alguna historia. Quizá retrata a alguna de mis antepasadas hilando, quizá a una vecina, o tal vez mi bisabuelo se inspiró en una fotografía. Nunca lo sabré. Lo que sí tuve claro desde el principio es que quería rendirle homenaje utilizándolo como inspiración para la ilustración que hoy acompaña algunas de nuestras
